No, it’s Not an Accordion!: Original Music by Noted in Nashville

Original Music by Noted in Nashville. No, it’s Not an Accordion!: Original Music by Noted in Nashville

When I recorded my first CD, I answered two questions on a regular basis.

  1. Has anyone ever told you that you look like Sandra Bullock?
  2. Is that an accordion on the front of your CD?

Of course, naming the CD after the title song, “This Silly Instrument” didn’t help matters.  At the time I was really digging on the music of Randy Newman.  I still really dig on Randy Newman’s music, but even as I wrote the song, I knew I was directly influenced by his humor and style.  (Contrary to my posting Under the Influence.)

So, what is the silly instrument I’m holding?  A keyboard.  It is my favorite songwriting partner – second only to Big D.  But unlike Big D, it is stingy and exacting – withholding my musical ideas for weeks, months, years.  It divinely imparts just enough music to keep me coming back.  Clever, silly instrument.
